Good to know.....

Our tours offer incredibly beautiful diving spots, lots of quiet and unforgettable experiences. There is a very large biodiversity, so both our macro and large fish lovers get their money's worth. Very experienced divers as well as novice divers appreciate the professionalism of the boat management and the diving instructors as well as guides. Instead of making general decisions, decisions are made individually and for the benefit of each individual diver.

During the northern tours, the Amba heads for the dive sites in Haa Alifu Atoll and Haa Dhaalu Atoll. These are around 280km from Male and can be reached in 45 minutes (85 minutes with a possible stopover) by propeller plane. The ship mainly cruises in the Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu Atoll, but also offers detours to the Baa and Raa Atoll in good weather conditions.

Remote reefs with manta rays and reef sharks, but also stingrays, guitar rays, leopard sharks and a multitude of otherwise more typical Indonesian critters invite you to unforgettable dives. Underwater photographers especially appreciate the large and colorful fields of soft corals in the north of the Maldives.

In 2021 the AMBA will offer 4 different tours:

For Male-Male tours, you will be greeted by a English-speaking employee at 4 p.m. in the airport's Burger King restaurant and brought to the Amba. Since we mainly offer back to back trips, we need the time before 4 p.m. to prepare the ship for the new guests. Earlier check-in is therefore unfortunately not possible. If possible, we ask you to take this into account when booking your flight. With Hanimaadhoo - Hanimaadhoo tours you will be picked up immediately upon arrival and taken to the Amba.

Above all, our guests praise the good quality and variety of dishes that our chef has been preparing for more than 15 years. Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are to be paid for on site.

Diving operation:

2 - 3 dives from the large Dhoni are offered daily, and if possible one night dive per week. The dive sites are selected with great care and a short but detailed briefing in English prepares the divers for the dive.

On board the Amba diving is only done with Nitrox, air fillings are not offered for safety reasons. SSI-PADI and RAID courses are offered on board and taught in English. The nitrox course can be done in just a few hours. If you plan to take part in a course, we ask you to present a written declaration from your family doctor regarding the safety at check-in.

There is no diving on the day of arrival. Due to the current Covid-19 situation, it is not possible to dive one day before you are heading back home and on the day of departure itself. A Covid-19 test must be taken on an island the day before departure. If there is still time, you will of course dive again. The test currently costs around 100 US dollars and has to be paid for by the guest on site.

Requirements for participation in diving operations:

-Each diving guest must be certified for a depth limit of 30 meters. We are well aware of the differences between the training organizations and will therefore adapt our decision. (PADI, SSI, CMAS etc.) We kindly ask you to have your certification (also just as a photo) ready at check-in.

-Each diving guest must be Nitrox certified for their own safety and for the diving group organization, as we will do not provide tanks with normal air for diving in the future. Courses can be booked inexpensively on board without prior registration. A English speaking SSI-RAID-PADI diving instructor is on board at all times.

- In addition to the usual diving equipment, every diving guest must carry a cutting tool, buoy with reel, diving lamp, signal whistle and a dive computer (per diver). We do not accept any exceptions! Replacement or rental equipment is available on board if pre-ordered. We ask divers who have their own dive computer to change their batteries before the tour. Regular servicing of the equipment is required.

- The minimum age to take part in a tour is 12 years during the Covid-19 situation.

- Very experienced divers are allowed to dive independently in the buddy team near a dive guide.

- If the last dive was more than 2 years ago or the diver is not sure about her or his experience level , we ask to take a refresher course in advance.

What is included in the trip price?

The prices listed are calculated per guest. The tours include 2-3 dives per day. It is not possible to dive on the day of arrival and the last 2 days of the tour. Covid-19 prevention:

Basically, every visitor to the country must submit a negative test no older than 96 hours upon entry. As the operator of the AMBA, we take the safety of the guests and our crew very seriously and have therefore drawn up a detailed hygiene concept. Here are a few main points:

- Before guests and crew enter the ship, a temperature check is carried out again.

-Each guest as well as the crew must thoroughly disinfect their hands before they come on board the ship.

- In the future, deliveries will no longer be brought on board by suppliers, but by our own crew, who use disposable gloves.

- Local carpenters are only allowed on board after a temperature check has been made and the hands have been thoroughly disinfected.

Since we cannot ask for a negative test from local workers, they are only allowed to enter the boat with mouth and nose protection and gloves.

- As usual sometimes before, we are currently refusing to allow visitors to other ships to enter the ship during a tour. Unfortunately, guests who may see friends on another ship cannot visit them either.

- Wherever it is not possible to keep a distance of at least 1.5m, we ask both our guests and the crew to wear mouth and nose protection.

- Before the guests arrive, the ship is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. During the tour, all areas of the ship are disinfected several times a day.

- Towels and sheets are washed at 90 degrees boil and then disinfected in the rinse cycle.

- Cutlery and plates are cleaned thoroughly as usual, but in future they will still be disinfected with boiling water too.

- Employees who process and serve food must wear protective gloves and mouth and nose protection during their work.

- As usual, rental equipment is treated thoroughly with a disinfectant solution before rental

Covid-19 cabin restrictions:

A cabin double occupancy is only permitted if it concerns guests who are booked together on one booking. If the guest is traveling alone, we ask that you take the single cabin occupancy rates into account. If the ship is not fully booked, we will automatically rebook guests into single cabins free of charge at check-in.

Costs extra:

We ask you to take note of the new extra price list on our website.

Diving accident and evacuation insurance:

We ask you to make sure that you have a valid diving accident and evacuation insurance. The Trip leader will ask for the insurance confirmation in english upon check-in.

With well-known insurance providers such as DAN or Aqua-med, the usual card is sufficient. For insurance such as private health or international health insurance, we need a written confirmation that the guest is also insured for diving accidents. This can be issued in English.

Payment on board:

Payment on board (green tax, drinks, nitrox, WiFi, etc.) is only possible in cash, in euros or USD. Credit cards are not accepted. In response to multiple inquiries, we recommend our guests to have around 200-300 euros per guest in cash.

1,190 coral islands, which form an archipelago of 26 larger atolls with an extension of 820 kilometers in north-south direction and 120 kilometers in east-west direction. 202 of these islands are inhabited and 87 are exclusive resort islands. The Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu Atoll is located approx. 280 km north of Male. There are currently only a few tourist islands here.

Generally warm and humid. The sun shines all year round and the average temperatures are between 29 ° C and 32 ° C. Water temperature between 27 ° and 29 °.

It is generally forbidden to enter islands in the Maldives. We always need the island chief's permission first. If you have the opportunity to visit a local island, please make sure you wear the correct clothing ... Women must keep their shoulders and knees covered.

Dhivehi is spoken in all parts of the Maldives. However, most Maldivians also speak English. Therefore, at least on the islands, visitors do not have any communication problems. English is spoken on board the Amba.

The Maldivian currencies are Rufiyaa and Laaree. At the current time (date of creation of this document) the exchange rate is MVR 15.42 per dollar. One rufiyaa has 100 laarees. The euro and the US dollar are the most common foreign currencies.

Local time:

In the Maldives it is 3-4 hours later than in the UK, depending on the summer or winter time.

All visitors receive a free visa for 30 days upon arrival. No prior visa is required. However, the passport must be valid for at least 6 months after leaving the Maldives. Due to the current Covid-19 situation, a negative test result, which must not be older than 96 hours, must be presented upon entry.

Duty free:

Duty free shopping is only possible in the departure terminal of Male International Airport. In the lounge there are individual shops for electrical appliances, watches, cameras, fashion, alcoholic beverages, jewelry, tobacco products and much more.

It is forbidden to bring alcohol into the Maldives, as well as pork and pornographic material. Since we have an alcohol license on board the Amba, we offer a variety of fine wines, schnapps, cocktails, soft drinks, etc.

On board the Amba, smoking is allowed in the open stern lounge. To protect non-smokers, we ask smokers only to smoke in this area. Not only are cigarettes difficult to come by, they are also very expensive. It is advisable to buy the maximum number of cigarettes in the duty free shop and take them on board. Of course, we also have cigarettes ready for sale on board in an emergency.

Drugs and Medicines:

It goes without saying that drugs of any kind are strictly prohibited in the Maldives and on the ship. We recommend checking the country's import regulations for taking personal medication with you.

Health care is improving almost every day. The Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male is not only the largest hospital in the country, but also has highly developed medical care. The ADK Hospital is the largest private clinic and also has a high medical standard. Pressure chambers are located on Kuredu, Kuramathi and Bandos.
